Upgrading Live Stock Support Services

Upgrading Live Stock Market will include Modernization and upgrading of selected 20 Livestock Markets (LSM) and 4 Small Ruminants (SR) Markets which would be strengthened under the MACP Project. In addition to the modernisation of Livestock markets and small ruminant markets, the farmers having livestock and small ruminants will be given extension support in the project so that the farmer gets better returns.
 The extension support will include provision of livestock lady link worker, support to the SR farmers, demonstration cum production units of goat as a high value enterprise, study of meat trade in Pune for setting up modern slaughter house, setting up of market intelligence cell, undertaking animal health check up camps.
Selection criteria-
  • The lady link worker (LLW) will be a permanent resident of the cluster of villages in the age group of 18-40.
  •  Ahmednagar, Pune, Sangli and Satara districts are selected for the formation of SR federations and for the support to SR farmers considering high presence of small ruminants in the above four districts.
  • The two backward districts Yeotmal and Beed in Vidarbha and Marathwada respectively have been selected to support SR farmers to undertake production of goat as high value enterprise.
  • Animal health check up camps will be conducted in the catchment area of 20 LSM and 4 SR markets.
 Activities to be supported-
a)   LLW: -
The extension network service of existing Animal Husbandry Department comprising of Livestock Department Officers and Livestock Supervisors will be supported by the trained lady link workers each in 2500 selected cluster of villages.
  • LLW will be trained at Krishi Vidyan Kendras (KVKs) by the ATMA.
  • The training will be of 7 days covering issues like basic sanitation and hygiene, information on animal and poultry diseases, training in skills like vaccination and deworning of indigenous fowl etc.
  • Each LLW will be provided with a vaccination kit.
